How secure is CU OnLine?

For the protection of your confidential data, CU OnLine employs two forms of security beyond your browser's encryption:  Dual Password Protection and Data Encryption. Dual Password Protection requires you to enter a second password, in addition to a four-digit PIN to ensure unauthorized users do not access your account information. Data Encryption is a process which uses SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) that transposes the pin and passwords which are sent from you through our server.  So, your data and activity is secure!

What is encryption exactly?

Encryption is the process of scrambling information by applying a mathematical function in such a way that it is extremely difficult for anyone other than an intended recipient to retrieve the original information.  Central to this process is a mathematical value, called a key, used by the function to scramble the information in a unique and complex way.

Simply put, your information is scrambled before it is sent across the Internet.  If someone were to intercept this information, it would be useless to them.  TruGrocer Federal Credit Union holds the key to scramble and unscramble the information.

What is SSL (Secure Sockets Layer)?

SSL provides an encrypted communication line between a user's browser and the Web site host.  SSL guarantees the authenticity of your Web content, while reliably verifying the identity of users accessing restricted Web sites.  SSL can be implemented using a 40-bit or 128-bit encryption scheme.  The more bits used in the encryption scheme, the greater the encryption and the less chance that data can be intercepted and decoded by criminal individuals.

Therefore, you will need a browser that supports 128-bit encryption, giving you the most security possible.

We have been certified with a Secure certificate from Verisign to communicate with you, the member, with SSL technology. Digital certificates act as a digital ID to ensure that users or computers are authentic.
